Public Programming for The Radical Act of Taking Up Space 

Friday, November 8, 7 – 9:30 PM:  Opening Reception ft. Performance by Moréna Espiritual

Please join us for the The Radical Act of Taking Up Space opening where most of the artists will be in attendance. At 9pm, the space will be activated by featured artist Moréna Espiritual, who uses dance as a form of physically taking up space while honoring their ancestors with Afro-Indigenous-Latinx music and movement.

Saturday, November 9, 1 – 2 PM: AW CLASSROOM Presents: Artists of Color Who Create Space For Their Community - Art as Social Practice

AW Classroom will lead a 45-minute art history class and open discussion about artists of color who are using their work as a social practice that benefits their marginalized communities. From Theaster Gates to Rirkrit Tiravanija to Tania Bruguera, we will have an educational conversation about how art can be used as a tool for community. Open to everyone.

Saturday, November 9, 2 - 3pm:  How Do You Take Up Space? : Artist Talk with Devin Allen and Charles Johnson

Moderated by curator Kiara Ventura will talk about how the featured artists are utilizing their work as a voice for themselves and the larger Baltimore community. The wider conversation will revolve around defining taking up space and how image making plays a role in each of their individual practices.

Saturday, November 23, 5pm - 7:30 PM: TAKE UP SPACE Concert feat. RRtheGiant, Upendo, and Al Rogers & The Lor Band
